Facilitated Zoom discussion with Tommy Dillon and Joy Wallis

The Very Rev Tommy Dillon, Rector of St Margaret’s, Baton Rouge, will facilitate a 30-minute Zoom session with the Rev Joy Wallis for anyone interested in learning more about the Wild Goose Festival, held in North Carolina on July 14-17.
“The Goose,” as it’s called by the faithful, has been gathering since 2010, each year hosting hundreds of sessions geared around the central topics of Spirit, justice, music, and art. Speakers like Nadia Bolz-Weber, William Barber, and Brian McLaren have headlined the event, but you won’t just see these big names on the main stage or tucked away in inaccessible green rooms. The informality of the space invites casual contact.
Most of the participants camp within the venue itself but there are hotels nearby. (https://www.vanhoyfarms.com/) There’s something about walking on paths in the sweltering humidity of a Southern summer that breaks down the typical summer, if informal, barriers erected to protect session speakers from common folk at more polished conferences. Add in all the little kids darting in and out of the white-topped tents, and it’s obvious why so many people say the festival feels like a family reunion. Three women from St Margaret’s joined Fr Dillon, and they said the festival had a major impact in their spiritual lives.
Fr Dillon serves on the Board of the Wild Goose, along with Board Chair, Joy Wallis. In 1994, Joy was one of the first women to be ordained in the Church of England and the youngest clergy member elected to the General Synod. Her experience in the priesthood was the inspiration behind the hit BBC sitcom, The Vicar of Dibley, starring Dawn French. Joy is the author of The Woman Behind the Collar: The Pioneering Journey of an Episcopal Priest. She is also the spouse of Jim Wallis, Founder of Sojourners Magazine.
