New Landscaping/Gardening and Beautification Committee
By Susan Rains, Committee Chair
We have formed a new St. Margaret’s Church “Landscape/Gardening & Beautification” committee to enhance the grounds of St. Margaret’s. This group is open to all who would be interested in helping with the planning, implementation, labor or donating funds or gifts towards our efforts.
Present at our first meeting were Father Tommy, Father Denny, Jennette Bourg, Karen Hudson, Lou Ellis, Susan Rains, Kyle Christensen and Mike Baldwin.
Discussed was a coordinated effort in the planning and design of the landscaping including all the grounds, but especially the areas of the 1. Columbarium 2. Front Entrance to the new church 3. The memorial garden with the slate Celtic Cross, benches, and wall on the south lawn.
A new idea for an actual working “Community Vegetable Garden” to be planted on the grounds, where we as a church community could grow food to serve the public.
Father Tommy has worked with one such garden in his former parish, with great community success and involvement.
Also, there have been donations and plans for a budget to help with ongoing maintenance. Our newly formed group's mission as will always be to keep the grounds manicured and beautiful. We will be meeting with a professional Landscape Company to help in the design.
We are so fortunate to have this gorgeous property in the heart of Baton Rouge, St. Margaret’s deserves to be a place of beauty where people can come to enjoy nature right at our footsteps for meditation, peace, fun and enjoyment.
Let’s turn heads and stop traffic on Perkins Road (or when traffic is already stopped, as so often is the case), at least people can look over at the grounds and know St. Margaret’s is a place of beauty that belongs to the community!
Our first goal is to have new plantings and color for Easter Sunday!
Our first work gathering will be Saturday, April 8th at 9:00 am. Those interested, please contact Susan Rains at 225-772-2072 or susanr705@gmail.com
