St. Margaret's Hosts 12-Step Sunday 5/14
St. Margaret's Episcopal Church in Baton Rouge will offer a 12-Step Eucharist during the two May 14 Sunday morning masses and a program about "Recovery Ministries" between the services.
The Eucharist and program are an outgrowth of the Episcopal Diocese of Louisiana 's encouragement of all congregations to participate in the activities during the Easter season. St. Margaret's, at 12663 Perkins Road near Siegen Lane, has Sunday mass at 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. The Recovery Ministries program will take place at the church at 9 a.m.
"I believe that the season of resurrection is an especially appropriate time for us to provide our congregations with opportunities to learn about the 12-Steps and addiction recovery," said the Rt. Rev. Morris Thompson, bishop of the diocese. "A Recovery Sunday is an opportunity to provide information about an illness that affects men and women of all ages, and all racial, ethnic, religious, socio-economic, and educational backgrounds."
Nearly 10 percent of people in the United States struggle with addictions of some type, said St. Margaret's Priest-In-Charge, the Rev. Tommy Dillon. St. Margaret's welcomes all people, regardless of religion or background, to attend one of the services to learn more about addiction and how friends, family and the church can support those who suffer from the disease.
